Picture a stoep, somewhere in Africa on a lazy Saturday afternoon. People sitting in the sunshine, ladies having a cup of tea, sugar, and biscuits laid out on a tray. Kids drinking cold cream-soda from a jug that’s leaving a ring on the little wooden table. Young guys enjoying a beer with the uncles, listening to advice from the old and wise. Girls, togged to kill, ready to go out, later on, whispering and giggling while eying the boys.Imagine me being also on the stoep, glad to see everyone and ready to hear all the stories. That’s why I am here – I am dying to hear all the stories!Maybe a short story from one of the ladies, fiction or perhaps autobiographical – won’t we all listen and be enthralled by the plot? A poem from a men, romantic, funny or maybe sad, rhymed or free verse – won’t we listen in awe and enjoy? Perhaps a rap from a youngster, letting out his insights, releasing his feelings in the flow of words – won’t we listen and admire the boy? A letter written by a fierce girl, showing outrage against a person, an institute, a country, the world – won’t we listen and raise our fists in agreement? Possibly an explanation of a certain word or a phrase, with examples of use in a sentence – won’t we listen and all be ready to learn more? A special quote with meaning, a saying that reaches the heart – won’t we listen and be touched by the beauty of the words? Maybe a book review from one of the uncles, a recommendation or a slating criticism – won’t we listen and be interested in his opinion? These are just a few examples of what I would like to be published on Sandra’s Stoep. I am eager to receive your prose and poetry, your raps and letters, explanations and quotes, book reviews and descriptions – anything you feel you want to write about and share with the community. We are all sitting on the stoep, let’s get our chosen drinks and listen to the stories!
