I thank Lola Thomas for the opportunity to participate in this wonderful project that will contribute significantly to our diasporan and home communities. It appeared to me most sensible to give of my greatest passion, which is reaching out and lending a hand, which – in other words is „mentorship“. As I am not a professional psychologist or counsellor, I will be supporting a team with others who are. I aim to provide content, advice and practical support around all aspects of survival and achieving fulfillment in life.
My credentials come from life’s experience, living in different countries, my occupational roller-coaster and my extensive interaction with staff, building teams and lifting juniors to their full potential. This extensive and varied experience in life, in occupation, in accepting change and recognising new opportunities has rewarded me with an ability to empathize with my fellow human beings and to understand the depths of insecurity and fear. How these factors manifest and lead to even more isolation as they sadly determine all their interactions and threaten to escalate to a place of no return. This is my motivation, to assist where I can.
On a general note, I plan to impart knowledge, share information, give advice, provide guidance, motivation and emotional support.
Support will not be limited to developmental efforts, we are also here to help you on a more personal level. Anonymity and confidentiality being the cornestone of all communications.Formularende
I am here for those in our scattered community as a mentor to offer guidance, support and empathy. To assist in problem-solving. To lead those in need to a space of comfort, communication, understanding and eventually resolution.
I would like to know that those having difficulty – in any age group will reach out to me and trust that I will accompany them (be it virtual) through the roughest patch. I would also like to know that those who know of someone else struggling to cope will make me aware so that I can reach out to them and offer my help.
We have had difficult lives; some of us having experienced happy but complex childhoods.I pledge to lend a helping and compassionate hand to those who are suffering the loss of our Zimbabwean roots and community social support structures.
Together we can. Thank you.
